Traveling overseas can be exciting! It can also be time-consuming with all the work that has to be done. Whether you are attending a school or university in France or taking a new job in Costa Rica, you may have to Apostille your High School Diploma.

An apostille is a process that is accepted by countries that are members of the Hague Convention of 1961 of how to authenticate documents. Non-member countries follow the legalization process.

How to Apostille High School Diploma

The first step is to have the original diploma. If you do not have the original, you may request a certified copy from the school’s registrar.

Once you have the original or certified copy of the high school diploma, you must have it notarized before you can obtain an apostille.

High school diplomas are a state document and not a federal one; therefore, you will work with the issuing state for the authentication process.

The next step is to submit the diploma to the issuing state’s Secretary of State to receive the official apostille. You can mail the original or certified copy if you do not live near the government office; make sure to include the correct payments, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for all documents to be returned.

If your destination country is not a member of the Hague Convention of 1961, your next step will be to submit the diploma as well as the apostille to the Embassy or Consulate to receive the proper legalization.

Requesting an apostille or legalization on your own can take several weeks. Or you can work with One Source Process and we can usually have your high school diploma authenticated within a week.
